The existing high levels of drug consumption and insufficient local pharmaceutical manufacturing remain a big challenge for the pharmaceutical supply chain and healthcare system in Tanzania and other developing countries. This study aims to comprehensively assess the pharmaceutical management system, manufacturing capability, and production capacities of essential medicines within Tanzania's healthcare sector. A cross-sectional qualitative and quantitative design will be adopted in the study. The qualitative procedures will be key informant interviews among selected stakeholders, in-depth interviews among local pharmaceutical industry staff, and desk reviews of related documents for the pharmaceutical management system in Tanzania. Desk review will gather and analyze existing data from reports, policy documents, and research studies related to local pharmaceutical industries management, manufacturing capabilities, and production capacities in Tanzania. The qualitative analysis software, NVIVO (or a similar qualitative software program) will be used to code and analyze the transcripts for in-depth interviews. Secondary data analysis from the SPA database and MSD will be managed and analyzed by STATA software. We will present the research findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, healthcare institutions, and academic communities
